A complete collection of Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu’s writings since 2009 on the validity of recent attempts to reinstitute bhikkhunī ordination.
This paper examines the recent events following the bhikkhunī revival in
Sri Lanka, and looks at the position of the Burmese Saṅgha, which has
traditionally seen itself as the custodian of an ‘authentic’ Buddhist
legacy, thrown into a debate by the action of a Burmese bhikkhunī who
was recently ordained in Sri Lanka. It introduces the early initiatives
of revivalist monks in Burma as well as the viewpoints of Burmese Saṅgha
and the nuns in regard to the bhikkhunī issue. Since most debate on the
position of nuns take place without much reference to the local
political contexts in which they stand, the state monastic organization
in Burma is introduced to aid understanding of the framework in which
the nuns operate today. At another level, the paper draws attention to
the tension created between the international bhikkhunīs who promote
liberal ideologies of gender equality, individual rights and
universalism
into a faith based community, and local nuns who adhere to the
traditional norms of religious duty, moral discipline and service to the
community, and questions the ultimate aim in endorsing such secular
ideals.

THE LOST CITIES OF CEYLON BY G.E MITTON
The ruins of Egypt have been known for centuries, but it is only in comparatively recent years the ruins of Ceylon have been unearthed. Since then numbers have been attracted by these strange and beautiful Specimens of architecture quite unlike anything found elsewhere. After the final victories of the Tamils, when the Cingalese kings were driven to their last stronghold, Kandy, which lies among the hills in the centre of the island, the jungle growth, so extraordinarily rapid in the moist atmosphere of Ceylon, sprang up in wave upon wave, engulfing in a vast green sea the sites of these ancient capitals. That such cities had existed had long been known, but knowledge of their whereabouts only remained as a tradition.

සිංහල ඉංග්රීසි ඩික්ෂනරිය- A Sinhalese-English Dictionary
Publisher: Colombo, Wesleyan mission press
Date: 1892
Pages: 824The first edition of this work was published in 1830. It proved to be most valuable to students of the Sinhalese language. The book has for many years been out of print and copies have been obtained only at very high prices. The issue of a newedition has therefore been long felt to be necessary ; but the preparation of it involved a great amount of labour and rendered delay unavoidable. The work was begun by the Kev. George Baugh but the greater part was executed by the Rev. Robert Tebb. After these missionaries left Ceylon the whole has been very carefully revised and no pains have been spared to ensure accuracy. As it has been difficult to find time amid
more pressing claims for this work, it is hoped that the delay which has occurred and also any errors and omissions which may be discovered will be regarded leniently. It has not been as a labour of love, but as the discharge of what appeared to be a public duty in the supply of a long felt want, that the execution has been persevered iu. The entire book has had the careful supervision of the eminent Pandit, Bartholomew Gnuaskara Esquire, Mudaliyar, of the Colonial Secretary's Office. At his suggestion a number of Pali and Sanskrit words which appeared in the first edition have been omitted in this, as they did not in any sense belong to the Sinhalese language. But many other words have been added, and the total number of words in this volume
will, it is believed, be much greater than the number included by Mr. Clough. We are much indebted to Mr. Gunasekara for the care and time he has devoted both to the revision of the copy and the correction of the proof sheets, and we are sure that those who use the book may rely with confidence on the results of his labours.
